Summary
Moved from Chicago to her cousins' Wisconsin farm after the death of her mother and aunt, Riley Mays finds solace in caring for her adoptive brother, exploring the surrounding wild nature, and gazing at the moon. But ten years later she feels confined by the protective walls she's erected around herself. Suffering from writer's block, novelist Vaughn Orr happens upon the accommodating, if somewhat unusual, Mays family. He is captivated by their eccentricities-- especially by Riley and her quiet tenacity. The two have a shared need to keep heartbreaking secrets buried. When the worst moments of their lives threaten to surface, Riley and Vaughn must find the courage to confront them if they're to have any hope of a happy future. -- adapted from back cover
