Having no way to contact his family, and fearing for his life if he told the truth, Solomon Northup was sold from plantation to plantation in Louisiana, toiling under cruel masters for twelve years before meeting Samuel Bass, a Canadian who finally put him in touch with his family, and helped start the process to regain his freedom

- Red tails (2012): In 1944, the war has taken its toll on Allied forces in Europe, and a squadron of black pilots in Italy known as the Tuskegee Airmen are finally given the chance to prove themselves in the sky, even as they battle discrimination on the ground
- 42 (2013): History was made in 1947, when Jackie Robinson became the first African American allowed to sign to a white major league baseball team. 42 tells the life story of Robinson and his history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers under the guidance of team executive Branch Rickey
